The gods of alternative music have sent some excellent new tunes this week. First off, if you’ve not heard the debut single by Document Pity I suggest you click here straight away and give it a listen. It’s absolutely top notch, a snarling post punk cross between ‘Colossus’ and ‘Smack My Bitch Up’. We’re really looking forward to seeing them play live and hearing more from them in 2020. Also, rather awesome are Polevaulter who came to our attention this week – its been 10 months of so since their last single International Break so not exactly new music but they’ve been touring with John x 2, hence them showing up on the radar. They’ve had three singles out, all excellent. On the new release front this week, there’s been the new single by Pottery Texas Drums taken from their forthcoming debut album and Drool by Silverbacks out on digital and 7 inch (with Sirens). Texas Drums motors on at blistering pace like a cross between the Teardrop Explodes ‘Reward’ and Pigbag’s ‘Papa’s got a brand new Pigbag’, Drool is a more downtempo and a bit 90’s. Both are very good. Although it came out a couple of weeks ago Football by Liverpool band Courting flashed up this week – another fantastic tune and the follow up to their equally impressive debut ‘Not Yr Man’. When checking out Courting on Twitter, we also found a post of theirs recommending the debut Pet Shimmers album, which is very good, and realistically merits a blog of its own so we won’t go into too much detail other than to say give it a listen. Post-Dick Circle F*** the latest single from that album is on our fiver playlist this week.
Two albums came out on Friday that we haven’t had a chance to listen to as yet (Document and Polevaulter have monopolised the stereo over the weekend) so we’ll be checking them out in the coming few days on the way to work – these are the second albums by Pet Crow and Dutch band The Homecoming. You can listen to / follow the fiver playlist here
