By Jon Milton This week saw a couple of us attend our first gig in months, at the Moth Club in Hackney to see Crows. The band played three sets throughout the day, and I caught the matinee performance. They were fantastic, fully kitted out in Halloween gear and it was wonderful to see live music played loud. It was also weird, with all the social distancing in place and having to sit down to watch, like going back forty years to when venues were all seated, but hey it was a gig, the band rocked and that’s all that matters. On the new music front there were some excellent tunes out this week and news of three debut albums due out in early 2021 to look forward to. Lice released R.D.C. taken from ‘Wasteland’ due in early January, TV Priest’s‘Decoration’ is the third track from Uppers, which was slated for release next week but put back to February as they’ve signed a deal with Sub Pop in the states and out at a similar time is Black Country New Road’s ‘For the First Time’ which has Science Fair on it (plus Sunglasses and Athens, France). Elsewhere the ever reliable Lumer have come up with the goods again on their new single First is Too Late, taken from their upcoming EP. This one has a kind of post punk / goth feel to it, reminiscent of early (Southern / Death) Cult. Also back with a new EP on the way are Laundromat, with their single Bureau De Fatigue, which is another storming track from them. All these EP’s do make you wonder when they’re going to pull their finger out and get an album out though!
